Young Deeside photographer’s journey from grassroots to Champions League

News and Info from Deeside, Flintshire, North Wales

Alyn and Deeside MS Jack Sargeant has praised the success of local photographer Cody Froggatt, who has risen from volunteering at grassroots football to photographing Champions League stars, thanks to support from the Welsh Government.

Speaking in the Senedd, Jack Sargeant highlighted Cody’s journey as an example of how the Young Person’s Guarantee can help young people in Wales develop careers and businesses.

“I had the opportunity to meet one of those individuals in my own constituency on Friday, Cody, who started his career as a volunteer sports photographer at his local club, Connah’s Quay Town. With the support from Big Ideas Wales, Cody went on to immortalise Wrexham’s promotion journey in 2023. Just last month, Deputy Presiding Officer, Cody captured Jude Bellingham’s last-minute winner for Real Madrid in the Champions League versus Manchester City—Welsh Labour’s young person’s guarantee on one of the biggest stages in the world.”

Cody’s career began with voluntary work at Connah’s Quay Town FC before he started selling his photography.

In early 2023, he sought guidance from Big Ideas Wales, a Welsh Government programme supporting young entrepreneurs under 25.

With this backing, Cody expanded his work, covering Wrexham AFC’s promotion in 2023 before stepping onto the European football stage.

The Young Person’s Guarantee, a Welsh Government initiative, provides individuals aged 16 to 24 with opportunities for education, training, apprenticeships, employment, or self-employment.

Jack Sargeant encouraged local young people to take advantage of the scheme.

“I am so proud of what Cody has achieved and he really is living his dreams. I would urge young people in Alyn and Deeside to follow Cody’s example and find out about the support available through Welsh Labour’s Young Person’s Guarantee.”

Reflecting on his journey, Cody also urged others to explore the available support.

“It was fantastic to meet Jack and talk about the Youth Guarantee. Jack is as passionate as I am about the importance of supporting young people to follow their dreams. Welsh Government support has enabled me to do this and I’d urge other young people to find out more.”
