A Wrexham Glyndwr University lecturer has gained senior membership of a prestigious engineering association.

Dr Sultan Shoaib, a Senior Lecturer (Associate Professor) in Communication and Industrial Engineering has become a member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE).

The IEEE is a professional association for electronic engineering and electrical engineering.

This professional grade received by Dr Shoaib is the highest grading a member of the IEEE can apply for, and it requires extensive experience and professional accomplishment.

The IEEE has more than 400,000 members and only 10 per cent of the membership has achieved this level previously.

Dr Shoaib said: “I am extremely delighted to be promoted to the senior membership level in IEEE that is the world’s largest technical professional organization dedicated to advancing technology for the benefit of humanity.

“Being a Senior Member is an honour for me as only 10 per cent out of more than 400,000 members are at this membership level and it is also the highest professional grade in IEEE.

“I am now looking forward to starting some IEEE Chapter in Electronics from the Platform of the Glyndwr University. I am also hopeful for initiating some technical research conference to run on annual basis at the Glyndwr University.”

Professor Alec Shepley, Dean of Faculty for Arts, Science and Technology at Wrexham Glyndwr, congratulated Dr Shoaib on his recognition.

He said: “I’m really pleased to have Sultan Shoaib join the elite rank of IEEE Senior Members and proud of the professional achievements that led to this recognition and look forward to seeing his contributions and successful projects and discoveries in the future.”
