Survey launched to improve access from Connah’s Quay to Wales Coastal Path

Flintshire County Council has launched a public survey to gather local views on improving connections between Connah’s Quay and the Wales Coastal Path, focusing on walking, wheeling, and cycling access.
The initiative comes after the Council secured initial funding to assess the feasibility of enhancing routes, particularly for those using wheelchairs, prams, mobility scooters, and bicycles.
While the current access via Dock Road provides some connectivity to the coast, it is not a direct or universally accessible route, with safety concerns potentially deterring residents from using it.
The pedestrian bridge on Bridge Street, although a valuable resource for able-bodied pedestrians, poses challenges for cyclists and those unable to use steps.
Councillor David Healey, Cabinet Member for Climate Change and Economy, highlighted the need for better links:
“Currently, accessible walking, wheeling, and cycling links between Connah’s Quay and the Wales Coast Path are not well developed, with the town largely separated from the Deeside coast.”
“Working closely with Local Transport Projects, the Council is inviting local people to put forward their views on accessible walking, wheeling, and cycling issues in the area and ideas for improvement.”
The proposed improvements aim to enhance safety, increase access to natural spaces, and promote public health and well-being.
However, any changes will need to consider local constraints to ensure they are feasible and sustainable.
Residents are encouraged to take part in the survey and share their insights to shape the future of active travel in the area.
