Stunning photo captures the moment lightning strikes in Flintshire as storms hit Britain overnight

Twitter was buzzing overnight with hundreds of images of lightning from a storm which swept over parts of the UK last night.

Friday saw a final push of hot continental air into southern England which made its way over Flintshire as it headed north.

Large amounts of energy in this atmosphere meant for some, a spectacular lightning storm with thunder and even huge hail stones a feature.

Lightning detection website blitzortung.org reported over 93000 strikes in the UK overnight.

Flintshire saw its fair share of lightning during the course of the evening and into the morning.

Laura Clays split second reactions helped capture the stunning image taken of lightning over Flintshire featured above.

Mikey Rowe managed to grab a shot of this lightning bolt over Deeside.

Nick Bell sent us this picture of lightning over Moel Famau.

@cjbarr01 – took this stunning picture in Llandudno.

This was a lightning strike as the storm passed over Birmingham.

Weather today will be will begin cloudy with the odd spot of rain.
The cloud will gradually break up during the morning to leave a fine afternoon with some pleasantly warm spells of sunshine around 22C

Sunday could see a repeat of the thunder and lightning, the day will start dry and bright. However, a band of heavy and possibly thundery showers will spread across the country from the west, followed by sunnier weather later.
