A Post Office will make a welcome return to Shotton after almost a year of waiting.

Shotton Post Office on Chester Road West closed last September after postmistress of 47 years Margaret Margarson decided to retire.

Her late husband John, was the Post Master at Queensferry Post Office which closed and moved into the Spar shop on Station Road.

From September 2 Shotton will once again have a post office service when a branch opens at H A Crook Pharmacy on Chester Road East.

“It’s great to know constituents in Shotton will soon have easy access to post office services on their doorsteps once again,” said Carl Sargeant AM.

“It’s been almost a year since the long-serving post mistress retired and I know Post Office have been working hard since then discussing options with local businesses to try to provide a service for people in Shotton.

“It’s welcome news that Mr Hook and Post Office have reached an agreement to provide this service and especially that opening hours will be considerably extended to 51 hours a week.

“It will be a lot more convenient for people in Shotton who are currently having to travel to Connah’s Quay, Queensferry or Aston to use the services they need.”

The Post Office will open at the H A Crook Pharmacy at 1pm on Friday, September 2. T

he internal layout will be completely accessible to the elderly and wheelchair users and staff will be fully trained to Post Office standards.

The Post Office serving point will operate alongside the retail till and extensive services will be available Monday-Friday 8.30am-6pm and Saturday 8.30am-12pm.

A very small amount of services not available at this branch are available at Connahs Quay Post Office, 6 Redhall Shopping Centre, Connahs Quay, Monday-Friday 6am-10pm and Saturday 7am-10pm.
