Polls have opened in Saltney this morning for the two vacant Saltney Town Council – Stonebridge seats, the result of the election could see the return of controversial former Mayor and councillor Klaus Armstrong-Braun.

KB

Armstrong-Braun was handed a 12-month suspension from being a town councillor at an Adjudication Panel for Wales tribunal in January 2012 for breaching 5 parts of the town council’s code of conduct.

It was claimed at the time Armstrong-Braun had contacted the widow of former Saltney town mayor Frank Wilson, Hettie Wilson, at 9.45pm on September 6, 2008, inquiring what had happened to Mr Wilson’s allowance. Mr Wilson had died just days previously.

Armstrong-Braun who lives in neighbouring Broughton will go head to head with Saltney residents Cherry Evans and Jason Shallcross, all three are independent.

Cllr Veronica Gay, Deputy Leader of the Independent Alliance Group and Saltney councillor said;

“residents need to support local candidates who have a genuine interest in the town and its development and growth”

There are two polling stations open until 10pm tonight, they are Douglas Place Community Centre and Sandy Lane Community Centre.
