Rural Wales Finally Getting Advanced Broadband Connectivity

News and Info from Deeside, Flintshire, North Wales

It was recently announced that the UK government will be pumping £289 million into an ambitious project to extend high-speed broadband to rural areas of Wales and England.

This is an excellent move to ensure that the whole of the country has access, and that the UK stays ahead of the rest in internet coverage. The plans involve installing gigabit-level fibre coverage to over 131,000 households and businesses.

Modern Entertainment Options Need High Speed Internet

The modern entertainment industry is jam-packed with offerings that simply can’t tun on low quality internet. High-speed is no longer a luxury in today’s society – it’s a necessity. Streaming services require fast and stable connections, or viewers are left waiting for their favourite series to endlessly buffer. This, obviously, completely eliminates enjoyment from the experience.

The same can be said for online casino games, which are hugely popular across the country. Live casino titles, for instance, need an infallible connection. When players place bets on titles like Mega Wheel Live and Busted or Bailed Live, they can’t afford to miss a moment of the action. When money is at stake, it’s crucial that the internet is fast and reliable.

It’s not just entertainment that requires a perfect internet connection. There are also more people than ever working from home in the UK, and many of these people do so from rural locations. Indeed, according to a recent report, 63 per cent of people are working from home either some or all of the time. If the UK can carry out its plan to provide high-speed internet to a greater number of locations in rural Wales, it could help even more people make the switch to remote work.

Bridging the Digital Divide and Empowering Communities

There’s no doubt that there’s a digital divide in the country, with built-up areas having access to a much better level of internet connection. The problem with this gap is that, the more powerful the internet becomes, the greater the disparity will be. Aside from entertainment, the internet is a source of knowledge and education for many, meaning that people from rural areas are missing out on a lot of the value it offers.

That’s why the government is so desperate to complete its £5 billion push to widen fast broadband with a final cash injection of £289 million to rural areas of the country. This will empower communities in lower populated places, enabling them to progress in various ways that they hadn’t been able to before. For example, it will mean that people find it easier to keep in touch with friends and family, book GP appointments, and so much more.

The UK continues to lead the way in the push for ubiquitous internet, and the government is adamant that no stone should be left unturned. That means ensuring that even the most remote parts of England and Wales have access to the online realm. With everyone having the same internet capabilities, it levels the playing field and ensures that they all have equal opportunities.
