Public invited to Coast Park launch at Flint Castle

News and Info from Deeside, Flintshire, North Wales

Flintshire County Council will unveil its ambitious ‘Coast Park’ project at the Festival of the Sea this Saturday, held at Flint Castle.

The event marks a major milestone in the council’s efforts to transform the Dee Estuary and Flintshire coastline into a space that supports both wildlife and local communities.

Stretching from Saltney to Talacre, the Flintshire Coast Park will connect towns and villages including Garden City, Connah’s Quay, Shotton, Flint, Bagillt, Greenfield, Llanerch-y-Môr, Mostyn, and Gronant.

Councillor Chris Dolphin, Cabinet Member for Economy, Environment and Climate, said: “This marks an important moment in Flintshire. Our focus is to continue to protect and improve the natural environment, moving forward from the legacy of heavy industry. The Coast Park ambition is a place where wildlife and nature can thrive, and sustainable businesses can flourish, supporting jobs and volunteering, and enhancing an important visitor destination.”

The launch event will include a stand hosted by Flintshire County Council’s Access and Natural Environment Team, offering information about the park’s development and aims.

Activities and displays will showcase the area’s rich biodiversity and ongoing efforts to improve public access to nature.

The Flintshire Coast Park project has received £396,580.37 from the UK Government’s Shared Prosperity Fund.

The funding has supported the planting of over 400 trees, the creation and improvement of footpaths, and habitat work to support a protected Natterjack Toad colony. A five-year plan for further development has also been drawn up.

The Chairman of Flintshire County Council, Councillor Dennis Hutchinson, and the Mayor of Flint will attend the event for an official launch and cake cutting ceremony at midday.

Councillor Hutchinson said: “It’s a wonderful opportunity to celebrate our coast. We hope people will attend to learn more about the Coast Park and enjoy the activities on offer on the day.”
