A couple of people have been in touch about some less than clear advertising billboards spotted over the last couple of days in Deeside.

You could be forgiven for thinking the billboard adverts were part of an obscure ‘teaser’ campaign from one of those very clever long beardy type creative agencies, launching yet another new brand of hip fruity cider, or something.

One person said to us they thought it may be something to do with forthcoming EU referendum debate – you can see where they’re coming from with that.

There are some similarities in terms of colour, typeface and even style to a degree with the Brexit leaflet below but TRUTH? Well, we’ve not really heard much of that from either side of the EU debate as yet.

As you start to chew over the words printed on the billboards: ‘Legal name Fraud – THE TRUTH – It’s illegal to use a legal name‘ the message leaves you utterly baffled.

Deeside’s new giant adverts have been spotted in Shotton and Connah’s Quay so far, scanning the internet it seems these billboards having been popping up all over the UK and abroad for some time.

A facebook page, one of many dedicated to so-called ‘truth boards’ show the locations of the advert sites.

So, who is behind these bizarre boards ? turning to Google again, it seems they are followers of a Canadian known as Kate of Gaia.

Followers believe having a birth certificate makes you property of the Crown, and therefore signing your name constitutes copyright fraud.

Supporters also believe your legal name can be used to ‘enslave and harm you’ and that having a legal name is a form of contract with the devil.

The group would perhaps best be described as a ‘Sovereign Citizen Group’ which Wikipedia says are “A self-described sovereign citizens take the position that they are answerable only to their particular interpretation of the common law and are not subject to any statutes or proceedings at the federal, state, or municipal levels” more here.

All clear? Good!
