Nine Flintshire schools closed today due to weather conditions

Nine schools across Flintshire have been forced to close today (8 January) due to hazardous weather conditions, including icy pavements and untreated surfaces.
The closures coincide with a yellow weather warning issued by the Met Office, which forecasts icy stretches causing potential disruptions to transport and risks to safety.
Slippery pavements are major concern, with safety prioritised for students and staff.
The affected schools include:

Flint, St Mary’s Catholic Primary School
Flint, Cornist Park School

Yellow weather warning in place
The Met Office’s yellow warning for ice remains in effect for Flintshire until midday, with risks expected to persist throughout the day.
Officials warn of icy patches on untreated roads, pavements, and cycle paths, with a likelihood of slips and falls.
The Met Office advised:
Allow extra time for journeys and walk on main-road pavements where possible.
Stick to treated roads if cycling or driving.
Check transport timetables for potential delays.
Wintry showers were forecast to ease by the afternoon, but untreated inland areas may remain icy into the evening.
