Mold Spring Clean returns for two-week community effort

Residents, businesses, and schools in Mold are being encouraged to take part in the town’s annual Spring Clean, which runs from Monday 24 March to Sunday 6 April.
Organised by Mold Town Council in partnership with Keep Wales Tidy, Mold Plastic Reduction, and Flintshire County Council Streetscene, the event aims to bring the community together to clean up streets, parks, and open spaces.
Now in its 16th year, the Spring Clean is one of the largest community environmental projects of its kind in Wales.
Jane Evans, Mold Town Council’s Events and Community Officer, said: “The aim of the Spring Clean is not just to collect litter and other waste from our town’s streets, parks and open spaces, but to help make our town a cleaner place to live, work and visit. Mold is such a wonderful, thriving town and we have a great community here, so I am hoping that people will volunteer an hour or two over the two-week period to help us achieve this.”
The focal point of this year’s event will be ‘Super Saturday’ on 29 March, when volunteers will come together for a large-scale litter pick across the town.
Collected waste will be sorted into recyclables and non-recyclables, with Mold Plastic Reduction’s Stephen Maund explaining: “Last year was the first time Mold Spring Clean had quantified the amount of recyclable stuff left around Mold’s open spaces and streets, giving us a benchmark by which to measure progress as each Spring Clean comes around.”
As part of the initiative, Keep Wales Tidy’s Carolyne Prew highlighted an interactive element this year: “Following the litter picks around the town, we will be remoulding some of the plastic waste into various useful items in Daniel Owen Square. Everyone will be able to assist with the moulding process, making unique and attractive finished products. This will show how recycled waste can be reused.”
Mold’s efforts will also contribute to the Million Mile Campaign, run by Surfers Against Sewage, a UK-wide initiative to tackle plastic pollution.
