The Met Office has issued two yellow weather warnings for Flintshire and other regions today, forecasting heavy rain and strong winds that may cause travel disruption and surface flooding.

The first warning, in place from 2 pm to 6 pm today, predicts heavy rain with the potential to cause surface flooding and travel disruption.

Flintshire could see rainfall of 20–30 mm within a few hours, accompanied by gusty winds.

The Met Office warns that road spray and flooding are “likely” to increase journey times, while bus and train services could face delays. Drivers are urged to exercise caution, with specific advice to avoid driving through standing water.

The second warning, effective from 3 pm today to 3 am tomorrow, highlights the risk of disruption from gusts of 40–50 mph inland and up to 60–70 mph in exposed coastal areas.

Coastal routes and sea fronts are expected to bear the brunt of the strong winds, with large waves posing additional dangers to coastal communities.

The Met Office has also flagged the possibility of short-term power outages and delays for high-sided vehicles on exposed routes and bridges.

“Give yourself the best chance of avoiding delays by checking road conditions if driving, or amending travel plans as necessary,” advises the Met Office.

The Met Office recommends the following precautions:

For Heavy Rain:

  • Allow extra time for journeys and avoid driving through flooded roads.
  • Protect properties with sandbags or other flood-prevention measures.

For Strong Winds:

  • Secure outdoor items such as garden furniture and bins.
  • Avoid coastal areas and keep a safe distance from large waves.

The warnings carry a medium likelihood of occurrence but a low impact overall, according to the Met Office.

However, residents are advised to stay updated on the latest forecasts.

Both warnings are part of a broader alert covering regions across Wales, the North West, Yorkshire, and the Midlands, with warnings in place throughout Friday and the weekend.
