Met Office issues snow and ice warning for Wednesday in Flintshire

Forecasters have said we can expect more snow overnight in parts of Flintshire.
The Met Office has issued a yellow warning for snow and ice, effective from midnight tonight until midday tomorrow (Wednesday).
The warning applies to several counties including Flintshire and Wrexham.
Heavy snow fell on Monday night into Tuesday causing some disruption to travel on Tuesday morning.
The snow has also disrupted education, with Flintshire Council confirming that 66 schools across the county are closed today.
What to Expect
The Met Office warns that snow showers overnight could bring 1–2 cm of lying snow in some areas, with higher ground possibly receiving up to 5 cm.
Ice is expected to form quickly on untreated surfaces, creating hazardous conditions for travel.
Impacts may include:
- Disruption to roads, buses, and train services, with longer journey times likely.
- Icy patches on untreated roads, pavements, and cycle paths.
- Increased risk of slips and falls on icy surfaces.
Safety Advice
To minimise risks and delays during snowy or icy weather, the Met Office has provided the following guidance:
- Plan Ahead: Allow extra time for journeys and check for road closures or public transport delays before setting out.
- Stay Equipped: If driving, carry essential items such as warm clothing, food, water, a blanket, a torch, a warning triangle, and an in-car phone charger.
- Walk Safely: Use pavements along main roads, which are more likely to have been treated, and avoid rushing to reduce the chance of accidents.
- Cycle Cautiously: Stick to main roads and avoid untreated cycle paths.
- Stay Informed: Keep up to date with changing weather forecasts and warnings in your area.
Why a Yellow Warning?
The yellow warning reflects a medium likelihood of weather-related impacts but a relatively low severity level.
The warning remains subject to change as conditions develop.
Regional Impacts
The warning affects multiple areas, including:
- North Wales: Flintshire, Wrexham, Conwy, and Denbighshire.
- West Wales: Carmarthenshire and Ceredigion.
- Mid-Wales: Powys.
Residents in these regions are urged to exercise caution and make necessary preparations to navigate the challenging weather conditions safely.
