Met Office issues new snow and ice warning for Flintshire as wintry weather persists

Flintshire residents are being warned to prepare for more hazardous conditions after the Met Office issued another yellow weather warning for snow and ice.
The warning is in effect from 5pm today through to 10am on Tuesday, with icy stretches and sleet or snow showers expected to cause disruption.
The fresh alert follows snowfall over the weekend. The new warning highlights continued disruption, with icy stretches and further snow expected to create hazardous conditions, particularly on untreated roads and pavements.
The forecast predicts icy patches on untreated roads, pavements, and cycle paths due to freezing overnight temperatures following earlier rain and snowmelt.
Sleet and snow showers are also likely, with accumulations of up to 5 cm possible in higher areas of Wales, including parts of Flintshire above 200 metres.
Travel in the area is expected to be impacted, with the potential for longer journey times on roads and railways.
Drivers are urged to take extra precautions and ensure their vehicles are winter-ready, including carrying essentials such as warm clothing, an ice scraper, and a fully charged phone.
The Met Office warns of a risk of injuries from slips and falls on icy surfaces and urges pedestrians and cyclists to avoid untreated paths and instead stick to main roads or pavements likely to have been gritted.
Tips for Staying Safe During Snow and Ice
- Walking: Use main pavements and walkways where possible, and wear shoes with good grip.
- Driving: Plan your route in advance, leave extra time, and drive cautiously. Carry essentials like blankets, food, and a torch in case of delays.
- Cycling: Stick to gritted roads and avoid untreated cycle paths.
- At Home: Keep an eye on elderly neighbours and ensure they have what they need.
Flintshire residents are reminded to monitor the latest weather updates and adjust their plans accordingly.
