Liverpool Airport urges travellers to allow extra time following road closure

News and Info from Deeside, Flintshire, North Wales

Drivers travelling towards Liverpool are facing major delays this morning as the A562 Speke Road westbound remains closed due to crash investigation work.

The closure, which has been in place since around 6 pm on Thursday, is affecting traffic between the A533 Mersey Gateway and Everite Road.

Congestion has built up across both the Mersey Gateway Bridge and the Silver Jubilee Bridge, causing significant disruption.

Liverpool John Lennon Airport has advised passengers to allow extra time for their journey if travelling via this route.

A spokesperson for the airport said:

“There is heavy traffic on both the Silver Jubilee Bridge and Mersey Gateway Bridge following a road closure on the A562. If you are travelling to the airport via that route this morning, please allow plenty of time for your journey.”

Halton Council has also confirmed that the road remains closed, with highway teams inspecting the carriageway. In a statement, the council said:

“The A562 Speke Road towards Liverpool remains closed. Our Highways team are at the scene inspecting the carriageway. Further updates will follow.”

Drivers are advised to seek alternative routes and check for updates before travelling.
