Reports suggest over one million UK users of the hacked ‘extra-marital affair’ website Ashley Madison have had their details dumped on the internet.

The data includes email addresses, location and credit card details as well as some more intimate ‘preference’ information leaked online

The group behind the so-called hack ‘The Impact Group’ promised to share with the world the details of 37 million Ashley Madison users who’s data had been stolen leaving many fearing the consequences.

This week the files were made ‘public’ and anyone with a little bit of knowledge could, and still can find them to upload and view.

Several big names have been “outed” by the press mainly in the US, and details of users registering with the website from corporate and government email accounts in the UK have been freely published on sites such as Reddit.

Reports even suggest one north Wales council are investigating the use of one of its corporate email addresses which has allegedly been used to register an account on Ashley Madison, hardly a newsworthy story on any normal day, but given the media clamour around the hack its fair game as they say.

A few online ‘tools’ have quickly appeared on the internet, created to help users search for email addresses in the data, it’s not clear though how accurate the data is in the tools.

We found the map below which again we can’t verify the accuracy of the data however, having seen snippets of raw data from the leaked files the geolocation elements are fairly well organised and not a huge challenge to upload onto a mapping tool such as CARTODB (below).

The map shows the number of those globally who have had their detail’s compromised.

So, from a Flintshire perspective 1181 people 85% of which are male who are registered on Ashley Madison site had their data stolen, in Wrexham 1267 and Chester 2620 (Chester figure will be inflated by those from Deeside claiming to live in Chester, a trend replicated on twitter)

Breaking that further down – again 85% of users in each Flintshire area are male according to the map.

Deeside 297
Mold 265
Flint 173
Buckely 164
Holywell 150
Greenfield 49
Hawarden 30
Saltney 26
Penyfford 16
Mostyn 11

The figures are based on the CH postcodes and mean very little to be fair, the detail would be a little more relevent looking at number of people over the age of 18 in each CH postcode area and work out the percentage of users per area, but that’s time-consuming – here’s the map: enjoy!
