A lorry shed part of its load of heavy concrete sections onto the A548 this morning blocking part of the road into Deeside Industrial estate and A494.

Police say the blocks weighing around 1.5 tonnes slid off the HGV which is owned by Eric Nicholson Transport of Cockermouth, on flyover just yards from a drop down to the busy three lane section of the A494.

The blocks crashed onto the pavement which was empty at the time, one eyewitness told Deeside.com “lucky no one was killed massive concrete blocks fallen off wagon.”

North Wales Police Roads Policing Unit who tweeted the pictures said the blocks were poorly secured with old and insufficient load straps.

The driver was issued with a PG9 Roadworthiness prohibition, given for mechanical problems or for the condition of a vehicle’s bodywork and equipment, he was also handed a fine.

The road was back fully open by 11am.
