News and Info from Deeside, Flintshire, North Wales

Hawarden Golf Club has been crowned Wales Golf Club of the Year 2025, a top honour awarded at the Wales Golf celebration event held at the Celtic Manor Resort on Friday 21 March.

The accolade recognises years of steady transformation at the club, from improving facilities and growing membership to promoting junior golf and launching inclusive community initiatives.

Andrew Errington, Chairman of Hawarden Golf Club, said: “On behalf of Hawarden Golf Club and its members, I am delighted to accept the award for golf club of the year. This award is testament to the commitment of everyone at the club including the management committee, members and volunteers.”

Club Manager and Golf Professional Alex Rowland described the win as the highlight of a long journey.

“We are absolutely thrilled that Hawarden Golf Club has been crowned the Wales Golf Club of the Year 2025,” he said. “This is the highest accolade a golf club can receive in Wales, and we couldn’t be prouder to have achieved this incredible milestone.”

“As one of the 143 golf clubs in Wales, to be recognised as the best is a testament to the dedication, hard work, and commitment of everyone involved at our club. This achievement marks the culmination of years of transformation, growth, and improvement, and it’s a moment we will all cherish.”

Hawarden is a well-established 18-hole course that has embraced a strategy of sustainable development.

From improved governance and course management to expanding junior and ladies’ sections, the club has made community engagement a central focus.

The Wales Golf judging panel praised Hawarden for its strong membership growth, facility upgrades, course enhancements, environmental efforts, and for initiatives like New2Golf, which encourages newcomers to take up the sport.

The award serves as national recognition of the work that’s gone into shaping the club’s future.
