Gold medal for Jade Jones in the World Taekwondo Grand Prix.

Flintshire’s Jade Jones clinched a gold medal on Saturday at the WTF World Taekwondo Grand Prix Series in Manchester, her first tournament win on home soil since London 2012

Jade, who  has already cemented her place in the Great Britain team for the Rio Olympics next year in the -57kg division defeated European Games bronze medallist Nikita Glasnovic of Sweden in the semi-finals.

Awaiting Jones in the final of the – world number two Eva Calvo Gomez of Spain one of her fiercest rivals.

The match ended with a decisive 14-4 victory for the 2012 Olympic gold medalist, who, having seized her second successive Grand Prix gold, is looking razor sharp.

Jade Jones told the BBC:

“I was actually really nervous for some reason, but just had to pull myself together, go out and enjoy it,” said Jones.

“I’ve finished second here before and there was no way I was doing that again.”
