White Ribbon Campaign is predominantly a male oriented organisation which aims to reduce, and ultimately end, male violence against women, tthe organisation also helps to prevent violence against men, as domestic violence can happen to either gender.

White Ribbon Day takes place on Monday, November 25 and is being championed locally by Alyn and Deeside AM Carl Sargeant.

To help raise awareness of the event, Carl wants local residents to join him in posting public messages of support for those suffering from domestic abuse.

A white ribbon will be wrapped around a large tree near the traffic lights opposite Motorworld in Connah’s Quay on Friday, November 22 and people can pin their own small white ribbons to it to show they are backing the campaign.

Carl said:

“White Ribbon Day has become an international event, which is recognised by the UN and more and more people are getting involved in events to mark it each year.

“During my time as an AM, I have worked alongside many great projects and charities supporting victims of domestic abuse, including the fantastic Domestic Abuse Support Unit at Deeside.

“Working to end domestic violence and showing perpetrators that it will not be tolerated in society is one of my main aims and the more people who challenge it, the sooner it will happen.

“One of White Ribbon Day’s primary focuses is to get more men involved in standing up against violence against women, so the more men who can join us in in our local campaign, the better.”
