Flooding suspends Shotton-Bidston train services on New Year’s Day

Train services between Shotton and Bidston have been suspended following heavy rainfall that caused flooding along the route.
Transport for Wales website states the disruption is expected to persist until at least 08:00 on 1 January 2025, however later trains look like they have also been cancelled.
Passengers travelling through these stations may face cancellations or significant delays.
Rail replacement services are being arranged, but Transport for Wales has advised travellers to check the latest updates before starting their journey.
National Rail states: “Heavy rain has flooded the railway between Shotton and Bidston, blocking the lines towards Bidston. Trains running between these stations may be cancelled or delayed by up to 20 minutes.”
This comes as the Met Office issued a Yellow Weather Warning for heavy rain and strong winds over the New Year period, affecting much of Flintshire.
Persistent rainfall and gusts of up to 60 mph have created challenging conditions across the region, increasing the risk of flooding and travel disruption.
Transport for Wales apologised for the inconvenience caused, stating: “We are working to source replacement services and advise passengers to use our JourneyCheck service for real-time updates.”
The suspension affects all services heading towards Bidston, with no estimate for full restoration until the flooding subsides.
For the latest information on train times and delays, passengers can visit the JourneyCheck website or follow Transport for Wales on social media.
