Flintshire residents warned to be on alert for council tax text scam

Residents in Flintshire have been warned to be on alert for a new council tax scam.

The scam involves residents receiving a text message stating there is a problem with their direct debit payment and asking for bank details.

Trading Standards have had reports about the scam locally, in a statement a council spokesperson said:

“Flintshire County Council Trading Standards have been made aware of a new Council Tax scam.”

“Residents have reported receiving a text claiming to be from Flintshire Council Tax saying that there is a problem with their Council Tax direct debit and they need their bank details to resolve it.”

“If you receive such a text do not respond to it, IT IS A SCAM, Flintshire County Council will not contact you in this way about your Council Tax.”

“If you have any concerns about your Council Tax please phone Flintshire County Council on 01352 704848.”
