Flintshire pubs encourage customers to take home commemorative poppy glasses

Marston’s pubs across Flintshire are joining forces with The Royal British Legion for this year’s Poppy Appeal by offering special commemorative glasses that customers are encouraged to take home.
Beginning on 26th October, 10 Flintshire pubs will serve drinks in limited-edition poppy-themed pint and half-pint glasses, with 100% of the profits supporting veterans and their families.
The commemorative pint glasses, available for £2.50, and half-pint glasses, priced at £2, will be sold at over 1,000 Marston’s pubs across the UK, including 179 in Wales.
The funds raised will go directly to The Royal British Legion, helping provide crucial support for the Armed Forces community.
Flintshire locals can find the poppy-themed glasses at the following participating pubs:
- The Plough, Aston Road
- The White Bear, Mancot
- The Crown and Liver, Ewloe
- The Running Hare, Ewloe
- The Top Monkey, Northop Hall
- Black Lion, Buckley
- Blue Anchor, Buckley
- Pen Y Bont Farm, Mold
- Red Lion Inn, Mold
- George and Dragon, Flint
Customers will be able to purchase the glasses either empty or enjoy a drink in them at the pub before taking them home as a keepsake. Jared Sedgwick, Director of Operations at Marston’s, expressed pride in the partnership:
“Brits have been known to take glasses home with them from the pub, but this time we’re encouraging it! We’re so proud to be working in partnership with The Royal British Legion to raise crucial funds for veterans.”
The poppy-themed glasses are just one aspect of Marston’s month-long campaign to support veterans.
In addition, Flintshire pubs will be hosting various events such as community breakfasts and live music, aimed at raising awareness and funds for The Royal British Legion. Traditional pin-on poppies will also be available for purchase at the pubs.
Ben France, Head of Corporate Partnerships at The Royal British Legion, said:
“We’re thrilled to be partnering with Marston’s to support the Poppy Appeal this year and beyond. The fundraising across their pubs will help transform the lives of those in need across our Armed Forces community.”
The Royal British Legion, the UK’s largest Armed Forces charity, helps support serving and ex-serving personnel and their families.
The Poppy Appeal, launched annually ahead of Remembrance Sunday, is one of its most important fundraising initiatives.
Last year, the Legion saw a 35% increase in households requesting assistance, providing help to 27,000 individuals and awarding over £18 million in grants.
Marston’s commitment to supporting the veteran community goes beyond fundraising.
The pub chain re-signed the Armed Forces Covenant in February 2024, reaffirming its dedication to offering employment opportunities to veterans and their families.
Several Marston’s pubs are run or staffed by ex-servicemen and women, further demonstrating their ongoing support for the veteran community.
