In a desperate plea, a Flintshire animal rescue is calling for immediate help to find homes for three dogs – Buttercup, Stitch, and Enzo – who face an imminent threat of euthanasia within 20 days if not rehomed.

North Clwyd Animal Rescue (NCAR) posted on social media, highlighting the dire situation created by the XL Bully ban for these dogs.

Despite the recent joy of successfully rehoming two XL Bullies, the future is uncertain for Buttercup, Stitch and Enzo.

Enzo is classed as an American Bulldog but, NCAR said, “as we are all aware, it doesn’t matter. He fits into the measurements of the XL Bully type so as a result is at risk.”

The ban’s restrictions compound the challenge, as the dogs cannot be returned to NCAR if an adoption fails.

The dogs’ behavioural issues, stemming from prior mistreatment and stress from kennel life, add to the difficulty of finding suitable homes.

The emotional toll on the staff and volunteers at NCAR is palpable, as they face the heart-wrenching reality of potentially losing these dogs, who remain playfully spirited despite their situation.

The rescue said on Facebook: “All of the staff and volunteers that walk these dogs are beyond devastated.”

“Walking and cuddling these guys every day, knowing in the back of our minds that their days are ultimately numbered is the worst feeling.”

“But knowing that they have no idea what is going on, and they are their usual bouncy selves regardless is the only thing that makes this situation that tiny bit easier.”

“In an ideal world, this post wouldn’t even need to be written, none of them would as the staff would take them on themselves, but unfortunately we all have our own pets and children that these dogs are not suited to live with, believe me, we have all been considering all sorts!”

NCAR promises to provide full lifetime behavioural support for these dogs and will cover the cost of the exemption certificates required by the ban.

The rescue emphasises the need for adopters who are willing and able to commit to these dogs for life, respecting the ban’s restrictions and ensuring their safety.

NCAR urges those who can offer the right home to these dogs to fill in an application form on their website.

They call for serious inquiries only, as time is of the essence, and any delay could have grave consequences for Buttercup, Stitch, and Enzo.
