Extra police patrols in Flintshire North after rise in drink and drug driving

North Wales Police have increased patrols in Flintshire following a rise in drink and drug driving arrests in recent weeks.
Officers will be conducting more roadside stops to identify offenders.
Flintshire North Inspector Wesley Williams said:
“We have a zero-tolerance approach to drink and drug driving all year round, but due to an increase in arrests in recent weeks, we will be increasing our presence and stopping vehicles when necessary in the area.
“Driving under the influence means motorists take risks every time they get behind the wheel of a car. They put themselves and others at risk. Drink and drug driving ruins the lives of individuals and communities and it is completely avoidable.
“We will continue to do all that we can to tackle drink driving, but we’d ask the public to support us.
“If you know of, or suspect someone of drink or drug driving, let us know. We’ll use that information to direct our patrols to identified ‘hotspots’, to catch offenders and take them off our roads.”
Anyone who suspects someone of driving while unfit to do so is urged to report it immediately to police on 101, or call 999 if the driver poses an immediate danger. Reports can also be made anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
Inspector Williams added:
“Your calls really do make a difference. Our priority is to keep people safe on the road network.”
The initiative is part of the force’s #Fatal5 campaign, which highlights the five most common causes of fatal crashes, including drink and drug driving.
