Eight years in prison for 81-year-old Flintshire man guilty of child sex offences

A man from, Flintshire has been jailed for eight years after being found guilty of 14 child sex offences.
George Welsh, 81, of Ffynnongroyw, near Holywell, was sentenced at Liverpool Crown Court on Thursday 27 February, despite denying the offences
.After a week-long trial Welsh was found guilty of all 14 offences including indecent assault on a boy under 16 years and gross indecency on a boy under 14 years.
Welsh’s offending was all committed against one boy he had first assaulted while living in Birkenhead in the 1980s.
The victim asked him to stop but Welsh laughed it off and continued his offending for a number of years, taking the victim to his home and sexually abusing him.
Detective Inspector Sarah Wilkinson said: “Merseyside Police have been able to prove Welsh’s sickening behaviour and he will now spend a significant amount of time in prison.”
“Welsh denied the offences, despite the clear evidence of his guilt. This led to a week-long trial forcing his victim and family to go through this added ordeal in order for them to get justice.”
“This prosecution demonstrates Merseyside Police’s commitment to protecting children from sexual abuse and from those who seek to harm them.”
