Disruption on Wrexham-Bidston line due to vehicle colliding with bridge

News and Info from Deeside, Flintshire, North Wales

A collision on the A5118 Chester Road near Padeswood has led to a full road closure in both directions, after a tractor carrying a load of hay bales struck the railway bridge, according to reports on social media.

The collision has disrupted train services between Wrexham and Bidston, as Transport for Wales (TfW) confirmed that some lines have been blocked due to the impact.

As a result, services in both directions are suspended while safety inspections are carried out on the bridge.

A spokesperson for Transport for Wales said: “We have been made aware of a road vehicle colliding with a bridge in the Dee Marsh area. This will affect train services between Wrexham and Bidston in both directions. For safety reasons, train services are unable to run through the area.”

In a post on social media, North Wales Police said: “The A5118 in Penymynydd, is currently closed due to debris on the road. Emergency services are at the scene, and motorists are advised to avoid the area and seek alternative routes.”

Rail disruption is expected to continue until at least 17:00, with rail passengers advised to check for updates. TfW is currently working to source road replacement transport for affected travellers.

Motorists are also advised to seek alternative routes while the A5118 remains closed between Padeswood Drive and Bannel Lane.

Passengers and drivers are encouraged to check live travel updates before setting off.
