Deestriders tackle Dash in the Dark, parkruns, and cross-country events

It was a busy weekend for Deestriders Running Club, with members competing across multiple events, including the rescheduled third instalment of Dash in the Dark at Llandegla Forest, parkruns, and the final race of the North Wales Cross-Country League.

The Dash in the Dark, held on Friday 7 February at Llandegla Forest, saw several strong performances from the club:

  • Michelle Bowes – 36:06 (3rd lady)
  • Christine Cammillare – 36:08
  • Paul Lewtey – 38:14
  • Fred Aird – 41:41
  • Martin Witty – 43:10
  • Andy Wainwright – 44:23
  • Debbie Parry – 45:33
  • Jenny Lewtey-Jones – 46:14
  • Claire Harper – 47:54
  • Joe Blackwell – 50:27
  • Jane Blackwell – 57:04
  • Sue Witty – 57:08
  • Fiona Robinson – 57:12

Kevin Burns, a founding member of Deestriders, marked a special milestone on Saturday, completing his 150th parkrun at Birkenhead in 27:46. This was his 20th different parkrun location.

Christine Cammillare had an action-packed weekend, participating in two cani-cross-country events with her dog, Ben.

The pair completed Delamere’s 3-mile course on Saturday in 21:37, despite Christine suffering an ankle twist.

Undeterred, they also took part in the Oswestry event later the same day, finishing in 21:53.

In the final North Wales Cross-Country League race, held on a challenging 2.9-mile course, the Girlstriders represented the club in style:

  • Jay Jennions – 24:15
  • Amanda Scotter – 27:25
  • Claire Harper – 29:09
  • Beverley Goodson – 34:52
  • Fiona Robinson – 37:37

Meanwhile, husband-and-wife duo Dean and Bernice Matthews conquered the Nick Beer 10k on Sunday, taking on the Great Orme’s tough course in impressive times.

Dean finished in 59:59, while Bernice crossed the line just behind him in 60:28.

The weekend’s varied events showcased the club’s versatility and determination across different disciplines, from trail runs to cross-country and road races.

For Deestriders RC, the season continues with more events on the horizon as club members prepare to tackle new challenges in the weeks ahead.
