It has been a busy few weeks for Deeside Round Table as their members have handed out £2550 to local causes in the Community of Deeside.

£1000 was presented to Wayne Jones on behalf of his wife, and mother of 2, Lucia Jones. Lucia is currently raising money to pay for life saving treatment in Mexico in her battle against cancer.

Wayne Jones, Lucia’s husband, said

“It was such a nice surprise to be given this donation from the lads at Deeside Round Table, this came out of the blue after they had contacted my sister in law after reading about Lucia in the paper, we are all really grateful for this.”

£500 was donated to Morgan Grady, a young child from Buckley who needs a vibrating vest for his cystic fibrosis, which will be vitally life changing.

£400 was used towards the decorating of the Old Billiards Room at the Hawarden Institute, which is used by local groups in the Hawarden area.

A few of the members gave up their Bank Holiday weekend to make sure that the room was ready for use the following Tuesday morning, for a local group to use. The members where helped out by retired painter & decorator Mr Derick Cottrell, aged 79, of Hawarden.

[miptheme_quote author=”Deeside Roundtable Chairman Richie Minshull” style=”boxquote text-left”]This is one of the many things that Deeside Round Table are here for, is to make small but meaningful donation to those people that are falling under the radar of other means of funding. All the money that we raise each year goes to local good causes & charity’s within the Deeside area. We all work hard to make sure that this happens as much as possible.” Deeside Round Table is different things to different people, raising money for local good causes & charity’s is just one of the many things that we do. From meeting for a simple social night and a few drinks, through to white water rafting. If you are a guy aged between 18 & 45 looking for something extra to do a couple of times month, then we are looking to speak to you!”[/miptheme_quote]

£400 was given to Flintshire Food Bank to purchase a set of industrial weighing scales, which will help the Flintshire based charity who provide food to those that are unable to afford it.

£250 has been donated to 3 year old Betsi Roberts, from Penyffordd, who was born with cerebral palsy and has undergone intensive physiotherapy at Bobath since birth. Betsi and her family have been looking to raise money for a life changing operation abroad.

Sarah Roberts, Betsi’s mum, says

“The operation could possibly give Besti a new lease of freedom. We are hopeful that if Betsi is a suitable candidate for surgery, then it will give her a new lease of life and enable her to do the things she so desperately wants to do with her peers. We are overwhelmed with the generosity and support people have shown us and we would like to thank all of the lads at Deeside Round Table.”
