This weekend parkrun celebrates its 12th anniversary and Alyn and Deeside MP will be at Wepre Park to mark the occasion.

Parkrun started in Bushy Park, Teddington back in 2004, growing into a small collection of events called the UK Time Trials it went onto to become parkrun in 2010.

The events bring together runners from all levels who race against themselves trying to beat their own personal best times over 5km course.

Events now take place every week across the globe with over two million registered Parkrunners having completed over 12.5 million runs.

[miptheme_quote author=”Mark Tami MP – Alyn and Deeside” style=”boxquote text-left”]Park run is a really good idea that encourages people to take part in physical activity in the local area. The level of fitness and obesity is one of the biggest problems in our society today and we have to do everything we can to encourage people to stay fit. I must congratulate organisers on their twelfth anniversary, it’s a lot of fun that brings the community together. Maybe next time I’ll be brave enough to run it![/miptheme_quote]

The Wepre’s parkrun began life on 14 May this year and has continued every Saturday morning since.

This weekend’s parkrun 12th-anniversary milestone is being used to raise the events profile amongst Members of Parliament.

Alyn and Deeside MP Mark Tami will be at Wepre park this Saturday, October 1 where he will be helping volunteers.

The ‘Friends of Wepre Park’ will also Volunteering on the day, the community group have helped transform the Old Hall Gardens in the park, with the help of Lottery funding.
