The much-loved Colomendy holiday camp near Mold, which has been a cherished destination for generations of schoolchildren, has closed following the collapse of its parent company, Kingswood.

Located within a 130-acre site at Loggerheads, Colomendy is set in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and a Site of Special Scientific Interest, with views of Moel Famau and a rich diversity of wildlife.

The camp has hosted school trips for decades, creating lasting memories for children across Flintshire and beyond.

However, Kingswood, owned by Inspiring Learning Group, announced its immediate closure after the group entered administration.

A statement on the company’s website confirmed that seven of its centres, including Colomendy, have shut, while three others have been acquired by the outdoor education provider PGL.

The statement read: “As of today, the Inspiring Learning Group has sought protection from its creditors by placing IL into administration. As a result, the Kingswood business is impacted, with seven centres closing immediately.”

PGL has pledged to honour bookings made at Kingswood sites, providing alternative arrangements at its centres with no financial impact on parents.

“PGL will accept bookings from impacted customers at a price previously agreed with Kingswood and will recognise any monies previously paid to the Inspiring Learning Group,” the statement added.

The statement concluded: “We are devastated by this news and want to thank all our colleagues and customers for supporting Kingswood over the years. It has been a privilege to be a part of so many life-changing experiences for young people.”
