Cheshire: M56 earlier collision causes long delays

Update: All lanes on the M56 eastbound between Junction 12 (Beechwood, Runcorn) and Junction 11 (Preston-on-the-Hill) have now reopened after emergency services cleared the scene of an earlier collision.
Despite the clearance, significant delays persist. Motorists are currently facing delays of up to 120 minutes, with congestion still stretching for approximately 8 miles back towards the M53 interchange.
Earlier report: Motorists are facing significant delays on the M56 eastbound after a collision between Junction 12 (Runcorn) and Junction 11 (near Daresbury) led to the closure of two out of three lanes.
The incident, which occurred earlier this morning, has caused severe delays, with congestion stretching back eight miles to the M53 interchange.
According to National Highways, lane 1 has just reopened, but lanes 2 and 3 remain closed while emergency services continue to work at the scene.
Drivers are currently experiencing delays of around 90 minutes on the approach to the closure.
Motorists are advised to seek alternative routes if possible or expect extended journey times.
A traffic report for the area describes the situation as “severe delays due to an earlier crash on M56 Eastbound between J12 A557 (Runcorn) and J11 A56 Chester Road (Preston Brook). Congestion has extended back to J15 (M53 Interchange) and J10 (Stretton) due to onlookers.”
