Asda makes biggest fuel price drop since 2022

News and Info from Deeside, Flintshire, North Wales

Drivers will see fuel costs drop from today, Friday, 14 March, as Asda implements a 4p per litre cut on petrol and diesel across all its forecourts.

The move marks the largest single price reduction by the retailer since 2022 and is expected to prompt similar cuts by competitors.

With the reduction, the average price of unleaded fuel at Asda stations now stands at 131.96p per litre, while diesel is priced at 137.63p per litre.

These rates are notably lower than the UK national average, which sits at 138.59p for unleaded and 145.77p for diesel.

Allan Leighton, Executive Chairman at Asda, highlighted the company’s commitment to offering value to customers. “At Asda, it’s in our DNA to give hard-working customers and their families the best value we can, no matter how they shop with us. This cut in our prices provides real savings when they fill up their cars with us, and they can find more in-store too,” he said.

The reduction comes in response to declining wholesale costs, a move welcomed by industry experts.

Simon Williams, head of policy at the RAC, praised Asda’s action and urged other retailers to follow suit. “It’s great to see Asda leading the way once again with a serious price cut on its forecourts, following our call for retailers to pass on savings from lower wholesale costs. This should spark others into action and help bring down costs for drivers right across the country,” he said.

Williams added that continued lower oil prices could push petrol costs to their lowest level in four years.

“We’re currently at an average of just under 139p for petrol and 145.5p for diesel, with both down a penny since the start of the month, but now we should really start to see that fall accelerate.”
