Almost 110,000 people across the region have received a covid-19 booster jab this winter.

Adults over the age of 65 and everyone aged between six months and 64 years with a health condition which puts them at higher risk of serious illness, is eligible for the vaccine.

GP practices, community pharmacies and school immunisation teams have also helped more than 170,000 people reduce their risk of a serious flu infection with the annual NHS flu vaccine.

Levels of flu infection are increasing in communities across North Wales, and the number of cases of flu in hospitals across the region is also on the rise.

The health board is inviting anyone who qualifies for the vaccine but has not yet received it to boost their protection against illness caused by the virus before Christmas.

Eligible groups include people aged 65 and over, anyone with a long-term health condition, and pregnant women. Care staff, carers and NHS and healthcare workers may choose to have the booster if they wish. A full list of eligible groups is available on the health board’s website.

If you have already received a letter with details of your COVID-19 booster appointment, you can stick to the date and time on your letter or choose to drop into a vaccination centre at an earlier date. If you choose to drop in, there is no need to contact us to cancel your appointment.

A health board spokesperson said: “The vaccines help to protect people who are more vulnerable to these potentially serious viruses.

“They reduce the chances of you catching COVID-19 or flu, and will reduce the likely severity of your symptoms if you do.

“They also help to protect the wider community from outbreaks, and reduce the pressure on local NHS services during the busiest time of the year.

“Getting vaccinated now will boost your protection in time for Christmas – helping you and your family to enjoy the festive season with the best possible protection against winter viruses.

The locations of the drop-in vaccination centres can be found on the health board website here.

If you are eligible and prefer to book an appointment, please contact the Vaccination Contact Centre on 03000 840004 or email [email protected].
