New Women’s Institute set to launch in Shotton

A new Women’s Institute (WI) is to hold its first meeting in Shotton on Wednesday 2nd March.
For those who don’t know, the WI was formed in 1915 to revitalise rural communities and encourage women to become more involved in producing food during the First World War.
Since then the organisation’s aims have broadened and the WI is now the largest voluntary women’s organisation in the UK.
Women in Deeside are being invited along to the newly formed Shotton WI which will offer a great opportunity to catch up with old friends and make new ones as well as develop skills, help improve the local community and most of all have fun.
Alongside the WI’s fame for Jam, Jerusalem and Calendars the institute has a proud tradition of effectively campaigning on topics as wide ranging as Equal Pay for Women and Keep Britain Tidy.
The group will be holding their first meeting at St Ethelwold’s Church Hall, Shotton Lane, Shotton at 7.30pm on 2nd March 2016 and anyone over the age of 18 is invited along and of course there will be free tea, coffee and cake!
Meetings will then be held on the first Wednesday of the month.
