Its Rob & Ryan, Chester Zoo’s Humboldt penguin chicks named after Wrexham’s Hollywood owners

Chester Zoo has jumped on the Rob and Ryan bandwagon to give some ‘much-needed attention to Humboldt penguins’.
On Thursday evening they announced that “Ryan Reynolds” and “Rob McElhenney” have hatched at the zoo.
Chester Zoo said, “Yep, you heard that right… In a bid to bring some much-needed attention to Humboldt penguins – a species which is vulnerable to extinction – one of our zookeepers has named two new chicks after the owners of their favourite local football team, Wrexham AFC’s Hollywood superstars Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney”
“At just over three months old, Ryan and Rob have just hit the water for their first swimming lessons”
Having hatched in late April Ryan and Rob have now shed their fuzzy grey baby feathers.
The zoo say they are now learning to swim alongside the zoo’s 40-strong penguin colony.
The zoo says penguins such as Ryan and Rob are ‘very charismatic but they are sadly in decline’ with Humboldt Penguins vulnerable to extinction in Chile and Peru in part due to climate change, pollution and overfishing.
Chester Zoo said, “We hope Rob and Ryan will inspire more people to take small daily steps to help protect their future” such as eating sustainable fish.
