Wepre Park: Teenage girl shot and injured while walking her dog.

Police are appealing today for information following a shocking incident in Wepre Park where a teenage girl  was shot and injured by what is believed to be a air gun.

The incident in  between the hours of 2.00pm and 230pm  yesterday (Saturday 1st march)

A  16 year old female was walking her pet dog in Wepre Park, towards the Visitor Centre and took another path that leads towards the Castle.

Ahead of her she saw four or five males, she  bent down to pick up her small dog a chihuahua, as she started to stand up she saw one of the males point a gun at her and fire it towards her. 

She has felt a sharp pain and the males have then ran off and the girl then made her way home. 

It has been confirmed that she was hit by a pellet and required hospital treatment, the teenager stayed in hospital overnight and remains there today while she recovers.

DI Tim Green said:

“We’d like to reassure members of the local community that incidents of this nature are rare and would like to encourage anyone who has any information to come forward.”
